ABOUT ME

Hi, I’m Gerda Boateng, a freelance visual artist turned UX/UI designer with a passion for making things look beautiful. With over 10 years of experience, my journey began at OCAD University, where I majored in Creative Advertising.

After graduating, I launched my own creative art business, Gerda Creates. You can check it out here. This venture taught me invaluable lessons about running a business, managing customers, and designing products that sell. Through Gerda Creates, I turned my childhood struggles of being bullied into a business that empowers Black and marginalized women to feel confident in their own skin.

I’ve had the privilege to collaborate with major brands such as Converse, MTV, CBC, ONFB, and many more. These experiences highlighted my knack for solving creative problems. I’ve also mentored and facilitated programs that help others express their creativity, partnering with brands and schools like Pepsi and OCAD University.

You might be wondering how I transitioned to product design. Well, as an all-around creative, I’m driven to make things that people love. With Gerda Creates, I discovered my skill for creating impactful designs and decided to take a course in UX design. Let me tell you, I love it! I’ve designed four mobile applications as the lead designer and I'm currently working on three projects to help others realize their design dreams.

I enjoy challenging myself to see if I can bring the same magic to others' projects as I did for my own business.

With my extensive experience, I’m confident that I can help make your product or project exactly what you’re looking for. Thank you for taking the time to learn about me.
